HEALTHCARE Aug 01, 2017 60 minutes
01:00 PM EST 12:00 PM CST 11:00 AM MST 10:00 AM PST

Description:

When insurance is billed for cardiac procedures, it is important to understand how to code for injections, different access points, and dual procedures to ensure the most complete payment of benefits to the physician, the facility, and the patient.  This webinar addresses these important concepts, and more. This targeted webinar will cover not only billing and coding for these complex procedures, but a basic understanding of the physiology behind the procedures.Understanding exactly what the procedures are and how they relate to the human heart will allow a more thorough insight into the coding and billing of these procedures.

With this concept in mind, we will explain:

  • Basic coronary anatomy for PCI
  • The injection procedures followed in cardiac catheterization
  • The differences in procedures:
    • Swan Ganz Catheter vs Right and Left heart catheterization
    • instant wave-free ratio (iFR) procedures vs fractional flow reserve (FFR) to diagnosis  ischemia
    • Explaining the access points for procedures: Radial, Brachial and Femoral
    • Cors vs left heart catheterization
    • Cath lab modifiers and terminology commonly used

Objectives of the Session:

After completion of this session, attendees will understand how to navigate the complex coding system for Cath Lab and PCI procedures.

Some of the important topics covered will be:

  • The role of X modifiers play in billing for these procedures
  • CPT verses Medicare rules when billing for BPG injections and PCI’s
  • Coding rules for PCI for Acute Myocardial Infarction to ensure proper reimbursement
  • CCI edits and understanding Medicare’s position with proper coding and billing
  • Discovering which insurance companies reimburse when coding branch vessels for PCI
  • How to properly bill dual procedures, such as cardiac Caths with interventional procedures, to ensure maximum reimbursement
  • Understanding basic heart physiology, cardiac terminology, and procedures to ensure maximum payment for cardiac coding and billing

Who should Attend?

This live audio conference will benefit any professional practice, hospital, free standing facility, or private practice where insurances are billed and complex coding is used.  It is vital to understand the coding and billing rules to ensure doctors, facilities and patients are receiving the maximum benefits and payouts from insurance companies.

This training will be valuable for:

  • Billing staff
  • Physicians
  • Mid-levels
  • Administrators
