ICD-10-CM codes changed as of October 1st.  Are you aware of the changes and new codes that affect your practice?  Do you understand these codes and how they are utilized?  Are your providers using the new codes? 

The Coordination and Maintenance Committee that reviews applications for code additions and changes publish meeting information that is invaluable in understanding the “why” in many codes. This overview lecture will not only show you the code additions and changes but also give you logic and background clinical information on them. 

This understanding will help you to recognize which codes affect your practice, how to use them and what needs to change to accommodate their use.

The ICD-10 Guidelines also see updates and clarifications each year.  This lecture will present these changes and additions to the Guidelines and explain how it will affect or clarify how that particular section of the book is to be used. 

Remember the ICD-10 Guidelines, per HIPPA, are “THE” coding guidelines for diagnosis coding.  Any individual, practice or insurance company that works with diagnosis coding are REQUIRED to follow the guidelines.

Guidelines seeing changes or updates include:

  • Use of the word “with”
  • Sequencing with a notation of “Code also”
  • Blindness and Low Vision – comparing the two
  • New classifications for Myocardial Infractions
